PbP Madness!

So as anyone who follows my Twitter-feed will know, I’ve gotten pretty involved with some Play-by-post Dungeons and Dragons games. Specifically, C. Steven Ross‘s crazy fun Fourthcore Team Deathmatch!

The upshot of this is that I have actually been able to get some roleplaying in. Finally! Even in such wacky arenas as the Deathmatch, PbP allows for some pretty amazing RP. (totally love what @AnExtendedRest does in his posts) So what am I gonna do? I’m gonna… tell you about my characters. (queue the moaning and protests) I also feel like I’ve made a ton of awesome friends-I’ve-never-met, and I’m contributing to a community that seems excited about my cartography and design, which feels awesome!

FTDM Match 1E1M2 The Citadel
I played P3-10R, an ostensibly “human” cleric of Pelor. Mechanically, his intent was to provide healing, buffs, and radiant vulnerability for the rest of the team. RP-wise, our team was comprised of killer droids/robots, and the particular image I chose for P3-10R had no hands, eyes, or mouth. My roleplay consisted of cannon-gestures and a complete lack of speaking.

FTDM Match 3E3M1 Ambulatory of the Succubus Queen
We brought our same theme over, as D6 Quadcore, but I left P3 behind and built a revenant thief. This guy struck fast, hard, and stuck around. I RPd him as IG-88, casting the opposing team as bounties.

FTDM Match 2E2M1 Minecart Massacre
This is when we got… silly with our team theme. Breakfast cereal mascots? Aw yeah. With Heroes of the Feywild out, I set forth to break the map with a pixie. Lucky Leprechaun, as a hybrid artificer/wizard, basically ignored cover and concealment from the outskirts of the map. He stuck to his name, surviving right up until the very last die roll of the match, almost (but not quite) gaining me the coveted Flawless Victory!

FTDM Match 5E4M1 Court of the Storm Lord
In a strange series of events, I was instrumental in choosing this map designed by a teammate. (unfortunately for WetwORCs) After breakfast, we went with lunch – all fast food mascots. The character that stuck through team design was human warlord, Colonel Sanders, (what, no link? match is still going!) who’s got a great southern schtick for RP.

Through all of the matches against the WetwORCs (1, 2, 5), these guys have pulled out some of the most awesome RP I’ve ever seen! @AnExtendedRest, @DeuceDM, @BrainClouds, and @StephenChast, for what it’s worth.

Anyway, through all this FTDM PbP, I started getting urges to grab some campaign-style gaming. After thumbing through a few forums, I latched onto a Keep on the Shadowfell run, and submitted Lodek – goliath paladin of Kord. It’s scratching an itch, and Lodek is a blast (basically a transparent analogue to Torq of Critical Hit), but… still lacking something.

Then! @MilwaukeeJoe starts recruiting for a FourthCore PbP game! I’m all in! I slam together a revenant monk/cleric using what I’ve learned from FTDM, and what I’ve heard from other FourthCore sources. Bhareg is born. (well… name and some concept was from an NPC in my long running Elemental Heroes campaign) This is already a blast!

And even with all this awesome PbP? I’m still totally excited for GameStorm this March! Well, TTFN, folks.
