DnD Next Twitter Backlash

More than 140 chars is sometimes necessary.

So for those of you who went to DDXP: I don’t think this is violating any NDA, since the devs have already pointed out that the core game with no modules was presented at DDXP… How was that? Did you have fun? Would you have more fun with the theoretical optional modules?

It’s my understanding that the game they’re looking to sell is intended to appeal to everyone who’s played D&D. This includes me (who obviously loves the tactical, the roleplaying, and a certain amount of complexity), and it includes the beer and pretzels crowd who just want to grab some dice and kick down some doors.

The knee-jerk reactions of the community at large are… almost hilarious to me. In fact, I see a lot of joking about how ridiculous some of them are. But yeah, from where I’m sitting, most of this is speculation based on an information-gathering technique. I think the game is going to make me happy. I think the game is going to make Sersa and Steven happy. I think it’s going to make the guys who throw together a beer and pretzels D&D game after a hunting trip happy. I think my 3-year-old will be able to play a variation once it comes out.

The emotion-ridden instant responses can really only hurt the product. I think there are a lot of gamers out there who know exactly what kind of effect unfiltered emotional responses can have. The important part is to step through their thoughts, and understand that what Wizards wants is feedback about what makes people *want* to play, not what makes people *not want* to play.
