The Blood Wraiths

Most metahumans are unique in their powers. Occasionally there are a handful (10 at most) that have the same powers (at least in origin or mode of the powers... there are many metahumans with, say, fire powers, they just manifest differently); these metahuman are some how related.

In 2009 an exception to this rule happened. Beginning in April a large number of people got the same powers, and the same homicidal urges. The media dubbed them the Blood Wraiths. They all had energy powers that were blood red and their eyes glowed the same red at times (notable when they were just about to use their powers). They also had the tendency to write strange saying in their victim's blood, and occasionally their own.

Austin, TX seemed to be the epicenter. They tended to originally be the homeless, drug junkies, and the ill, but people from all walks of life became Blood Wraiths. They seemed indiscriminate in who they attacked and would always fight anyone who stood up to them, which lead to many of the Blood Wraiths being killed (though that didn't seem to diminish their numbers). Authorities were completely baffled on how to deal with them, and panic hit the general populous.

In early June though, the Blood Wraiths stopped. The Blood Wraiths who were still alive lost their powers and regained their senses. There are still rumors that some are still around. The body count associated with the Wraiths is in the thousands, but the exact number will probably never be known.

The fall out from the Blood Wraiths will probably be felt for many years to come. There is a general fear that the Blood Wraiths will come back. Also the general fear of metahumans has grown. There are people who are now looking for solutions for the "metahuman problem". The metahuman are also scared, as this was an isolated incident that isn't them (for the most part), but it is the biggest event that has happened.
