In the autumn of C:6:0:9, Matoya almost stopped a thief from ransacking the treasury of Ferwilfe, but failed when he warded the door on his way out. As a result, she lost her sight, ironically only curable by an artifact stolen by that same thief: the Eye of Narissa. Matoya is one of the seven witches on the Council of Elders in Ferwilfe, and has great political power in the green-belt between Malidia and Pravoka.
It wasn't until the Light Warriors returned the Eye to Ferwilfe on C:6:1:9:Hermes:I that Matoya regained her sight.
