Statistically, these are just like goblins from D&D. In fact, the only reason I use the word "imp" is because Squaresoft had a limited amount of characters to translate "goblin" with.
It is said that imps descended from the same vile master race as rock goblins, trolls and ogres. The particular breed that lives in Conerian lands has bright orange skin, lives short lives but breeds quickly, and is generally unpleasant but harmless. It wasn't until very recently that Rashanishu brought all the tribes together under his shrewd dictatorship to build a devastating army of the little things.
