In the beginning, the very beginning, everything was created by the three goddesses, Din, Farore and Nayru. Din sculpted the land with her powerful, flaming arms. Nayru created order with her wisdom and thought. Farore created the living things with her courage and spirit. The living creatures obey the natural laws and walk on the land. This is the way of things.

The goddesses also created an object of unfathomable power - the Triforce. It is said that any who touch the Triforce gain one wish, whatever it may be. At the time of the world's creation, the Triforce was hidden away in the Spirit Realm.

Nowadays, Hyrule is a land plagued by moblins, tektites, the Gerudo, and the Zora. It wasn't always this way. Once, it is said, the seven races lived in peace, but they have been split since time forgot. The Hylian race is mostly limited to Kakariko Village, and Hyrule Palace.
