History

Almost a thousand years ago (nobody's exactly sure when) the warrior Zherice hatched a scheme to take over the world. He went to the mage Bladisch to acquire a sword which would enable him to do so. Zherice forged the sword, Bladisch enchanted it with his magic, and Bhareg, a priest of Strife, cursed it with his master's unholy powers.

Zherice would have succeeded in his evil mission, had the Giants and Litorians not landed on the northern shores 18 years before the establishment of Coneria. The races of the southern continent joined forces with those of the northern and managed to finally defeat Zherice and his minions 17 years later. In celebration of the disparate races working together, Coneria was founded on this same harmony.

Zherice's blade was locked away in the deepest dungeon of the newly built palace, and kept under heavy guard until the spring of 6:1:8, when Garland stole it, succumbing to its evil intelligence. He used it to marshal the forces of the imps to lead an attack on Coneria, and it helped when he kidnapped Cyrista. However, the foretold Light Warriors defeated him underneath the last Temple of Strife, taking the Blade of Zherice to be destroyed.

Kovar's father, Darmok was given the task of destroying the sword, but between the stress of the imp invasion and his continued proximity to the blade, he also fell to its wicked designs. The Light Warriors brought it to the University at Melmond to seek an expert in its destruction. After they entered Terra Cavern, Bladisch took the sword and demonstrated its power as the Living Blade, "Deathbringer." In the conflict that followed, Vadin struck Bladisch down with his own blade, destroying both. The remains of the ancient sword are currently with the party, on its way to complete destruction.
