Aerethon happens to orbit as a moon around a gas giant, known as Selene by the giants and followers of their religion. One whole week of the year, belonging to Hades, is shrouded in night as Aerethon passes into eclipse behind Selene. Aerethon's year is 180 days, and Selene's orbit around the sun is twelve years, or a "greatyear." Twelve greatyears make a "grandyear," and twelve of those make up a "greatgrandyear." It's somewhat akin to how we address our ancestors.

The three days of the week which are described with only one character (Ena, Pente, Theka) are socially accepted as days of rest, like our Saturday and Sunday.

It's been generally accepted, even by alabast scholars, that the giantish method of writing the date is the most effective, though starting points tend to vary among cultures:

Culture : Grandyear : Greatyear : Year : Week : Day

Example: C : 6 : 1 : 9 : Hestia : III = 885 Conerian, Hestia Tria
